So, it’s our last day in Cebu. And let me tell you, your tour will never be complete without exploring the beautiful city of Cebu.
It is one of the most developed provinces in the Philippines with Metro Cebu being the second largest metropolitan area in the Philippines after Metro Manila and Cebu City as the main center of commerce, trade, education and industry in the Visayas. In a decade, it has transformed into a global hub for business processing services, tourism, shipping, furniture-making, and heavy industry. The name “Cebu” comes from the old Cebuano word sibu(“trade”), a shortened form of sinibuayng hingpit (“the place for trading”). It was originally applied to the harbors of the town of Sugbu, the ancient name for Cebu City.
Now let’s talk about their transportation. Commuting in Cebu City is a bit hard because their Jeepney has a code. This means that each code has its own route so you have to be careful when riding a jeepney. From our hostel, we rode a jeep going to JY Square Mall. Thanks to my atuh gerl for speaking Bisaya. Upon arriving, there are many habal-habal will ask where you would want to go. I suggest getting a habal-habal for each person, since there’a language barrier, we did not understand each other that we will be paying 100pesos($2) each going to your first destination and 100pesos ($2) down to your last destination. A total of 400pesos ($8). I should have rented my own habal-habal, my butt really hurt for trying to fit in a good for 2 motorcycle. I really need to learn the art of haggling with people.
1. Cebu Little Amsterdam
The entrance fee is 100pesos ($2), you’ll be awed with the landscape of the garden, it has the variety of flowers like Chinese Aster, Lilies, daisy, etc. (I have a little background about flowers because my auntie owns a flower shop.)
This is a different garden but just 20 feet away from Little Amsterdam. Entrance fee is only 50pesos ($1). Same with Little Amsterdam, it has a variety of flowers. It has a lot of spots to take pictures it’s indeed Instagram worthy location.
Farmers start to plant flowers around July. Their harvest period is the last week of October in preparation for All Saints & All Soul’s Day. The time we went there the flowers are starting to bloom.
3. Temple of Leah
Reminders upon visiting the temple:
- Observe Silence. the place is very solemn.
- Taking pictures inside the shrine is not allowed.
- Please wear proper attire. No Shorts and No Sando.
What is Taoism? Taoism is a Chinese religion/philosophy based on the teachings of Lao Tze who was said to have lived in the 6th century BC and the sacred text, the Tao te Ching. that Lao Tze is traditionally believed to have written.
Taoists believe the “tao” (the way), that refers to the principle of the universe. An emphasis is put on remaining in harmony with the “tao” and with one’s environment, which in turn leads to right behavior.
I want to end my Cebu Blog with no tears left to cry. whenever I will go back and read this, I want to remind myself that I became a stronger lady just by leaving everything that is meant to be in Cebu City. Cebu you left my heart in awe, I made a lot of memories while I’m touring you around. I’ll be back but with a smile on my face while boarding in the plane.
